Bodycam Captures Fatal Shooting with Houston Officer, Suspect
Oct. 15, 2021
Houston Police Officer William Jeffrey was shot and killed during a gunfight while serving a narcotics arrest warrant on a suspect, who also was killed.
Houston police released video footage of a shootout last month that left a suspect and an officer dead and another officer seriously wounded.
The shootout happened Sept. 20 as Houston Police Officer William Jeffrey and Sgt. Michael Vance were part of a unit serving a narcotics arrest warrant, KTRK-TV reports. Jeffrey and the suspect were killed in the ensuing gunfight, and Vance was critically injured.
While releasing body camera footage of the incident Tuesday, the ATF drew attention to the illegal auto switch on the suspect's weapon, letting a gun fire 30 rounds in about 2.6 seconds. So far this year, the bureau has seized roughly 100 auto switches in Houston.
"If you pay particular attention to the body worn camera of the two officers, the sergeant and Officer Jeffrey at the door, you get the best indication that that weapon was firing in a fully automatic mode," Special Agent in Charge Fred Milanowski said.
